Ping G400 Irons

Ping's own copy said this iron flexes like a catapult, which is marketing but not far off the mechanism: the face is decoupled from the body so it can move at impact instead of being braced by it. That is how a cast stainless head produces speed a forged one cannot.

The catch, and it is a real one, is that the same design makes noise. Ping's answer was a three-piece badge of elastomer and aluminium moulded into the cavity to absorb it. Seven clubs, 4-iron to pitching wedge. The 7-iron sits at 30 degrees, the head cast from Hyper 17-4 stainless, with nine shaft options and both hands built. Ping sold these per club, so an unusual makeup is easy to find secondhand.
