A blade that doesn't hang. Most blades sit with the toe drooping and reward a stroke that swings on an arc, but the No. 1 is balanced flat, so it wants the ball struck with a stroke that runs straight back and straight through while still giving you a traditional shape to look down on.

Two lengths, 34 and 35 inches, and it's made for left handers as well as right, which narrows quickly elsewhere in this range. The face is cut from the head, not fitted as an insert, so what you feel is metal meeting ball. If the shape appeals but you'd like more stability behind it, the No. 3 carries that flat balance into a mallet head.
